If it Fits I Eats | Eats Cafeteria, Tel Aviv

Eats Cafiteria is a joint initiative of ex-Master Chef participant, Michal Epstein and Yonatan Koevary, ex-partner at Loveat coffee chain.

The place recently opened as part of Beit Chana, a cultural and wellness center situated at a beautiful Bauhaus building from the 1930’s.

The cafeteria is inspired by Ottolenghi’s delicatessens, which allow to have great experiences both dining in our taking home.

The vibe in Eats is very casual and down-to-earth. The place is small – at the top of a small staircase is a counter full of mouth-watering salads, sandwiches and pastries, most of which are prepared at their kitchen.

There are some tables inside by the big windows, with seating on the cosy window sill. There are many tables scattered around in the big garden, along with some big fans, but they were no match for the Israeli summer heat.

We arrived on Saturday morning (extra points for being open then!) and ordered two sandwiches and freshly squeezed Orange Juice (12₪ \ $3.5) and great Cold Coffee (14₪ \ $4).

The Corned Beef Sandwich (44₪ \ $12.5) was one of the best sandwiches I had. Thanks to matching the beef with generous spread of sour cream, fried onions and herbs it was surprisingly well balanced. And the bun, oh the bun – absolutely terrific. So soft and pillow-y. Not that you’d want to eat a pillow – but you catch my drift.

The Bacon and Scrabbled Egg Sandwich (24₪ \ $7) was semi-pressed to a toast. It was very nice but it would be even better if they spared for some more bacon.

Scones are so easy to screw-up, and even in London I found it hard to come across decent ones. Eats’ Bacon and Maple Scone (21₪ \ $6) nailed it. These buttery sweet and savory scones had a dark golden crust and moist inner-crumb dotted with flaky bacon pieces.

The Carrot Cake (18₪ \ $5) comes with a ultra creamy and thick cheese frosting in the middle. It was light, moist and yummy.

Eats is a really lovely place and everything we tried was a delight. On the downside, it’s pricey and composing a meal turned out to be an expensive endeavor.

The place offers a blend of healthy and decadent fresh and fun food. Choosing is almost impossible since everything looks so appealing. There are so many more dishes I would love to taste so I guess more visits will have to ensue.
